Questions...

Q)    When is the last day to register?

A) Registration closes at midnight on July 10th. Entries after midnight on July 3rd are subject to a late fee of $5.00

 Q) What is the preparation seminar?

A) The preparation seminar is held at the Port Sydney beach a week before the triathlon. At the seminar, we review the triathlon course, what to expect during the event, and the transition process. We show a video of a previous Muskoka Kids Tri filmed on location by TVOntaio. We give helpful hints, answer any questions and provide last minute training advice.

Q) Do I have to attend the preparation seminar?

A) The preparation seminar is optional. First time “tri-ers” find it very helpful to gain a better understanding of what to expect and how to prepare.

Q) Do I have to attend the bike check?

A) The bike check service is provided free of charge by Algonquin Outfitters. Their experts check your tires, your brakes and gears and make any minor adjustments that are necessary. The bike check is optional but recommended if your bike has not been recently serviced. There are 2 bike checks – one during the preparation seminar, and one during the race kit pick up. See the schedule for exact times.

Q) When and where do I pick up my race kit?

A) Race kit pick up is the Friday evening before the triathlon. Kits can be picked up at the Port Sydney Community Hall from 6:30 – 8:00 pm. Race kits are also available the morning of the triathlon from 8:00 am to 9:00 am, the morning of the race, in the Port Sydney Community Hall. Participants who do not pick up their kits by 9:00am on race day will be scratched from the event.

Q) What happens the morning of the triathlon? When can I set up?

A) If you have not picked up your race kit on Friday night then you must pick it up before 9:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.  After you have your race kit you may proceed to the transition area.
The transition area opens for setup at 8:00 a.m.  All athletes will be directed to the appropriate location for their age group and can select an available spot within the designated area.  Put your bike, helmet, running shoes, water bottle, socks etc. in your spot.  It can be helpful to have a towel and pan of water in your spot to wipe your feet after the swim and before the bike portion of the event.
After you have set up your transition area proceed to body marking to have your number marked on your arms and legs.  Your timing chip will also be distributed in the body marking area.  You must take your bib to body marking and must complete this no later than 9:20 a.m.

Q) Are non-participants allowed in the transition area?

A) Parents and other non-participants are allowed to help the athletes set up in the transition area.  Approximately 30 minutes prior to the event, all non-participants will be asked to clear the transition area and only athletes can remain.  Non-participants are not allowed in the transition area again until the last adult runner has left the transition area and it is re-opened.

Q) What if my child needs help while in transition?

A) There are many volunteers stationed in the transition area who will assist any athletes with helmets, shoes etc as required.

Q) When are participants allowed in the transition area after the race starts?

A) The transition area will be cleared after the opening ceremony and warm-ups.  All athletes must leave the area and may not re-enter except during the actual transition of their race.  Athletes must take their bathing cap and any other articles that they may need before the swim start.

Q) What if I change my mind and don’t want to participate anymore?

A) If you decide at any time that you do not want to participate in the event please notify one of the race co-directors. It is imperative that we know of any athletes that do not start or finish the race so we can alert the race marshalls on the course.  For safety reasons we track all athletes very closely at several points during the race.  We will look for any athletes that are not checked off at the expected points so it is critical that we communicate cancellations as soon as possible.
If you decide not to participate prior to race day you can email info@muskokakidstri.com or call Sharon at 385-4123 or

Jane at 789-8627.
On race day please find one of us – we will be wearing bright pink shirts and will be near the gazebo at the beach.

Q) Do I have to wear my bathing cap?

A) Yes – for safety reasons you must wear the bathing cap that you receive in your race kit.  The caps are colour coded based on age and turning point and must be worn during the swim.  If you have trouble during the swim you can remove your cap and wave it to signify a life guard to come to your assistance.

Q) Can I wear a life jacket?

A) The race bib is not required to be worn during the swim but is mandatory for the bike and the run.
Males must wear a shirt for the bike and the run and must pin the bib to the front of their shirt.
Females may pin the race bib to the front of their bathing suit, where it on a race belt positioned to the front or pinned to the front of their shirt.

Q) Do I have to wear a bike helmet?

A) No. All athletes must be able to ride a two wheel bicycle on their own without training wheels.

Q) What do I do with my chip after the race?

A) Volunteers will be positioned just over the finish line to collect the timing chips.  If you do not finish the race you must go to the finish area and return your timing chip.  There is a $40 charge for any chips not returned.

A) You may not retrieve your belongings from the transition area until the last adult athlete has departed the area to start the run.  At this time the transition area will be re-opened.

Non-participants may purchase food and drinks from the b.b.q. volunteers.

Q) Where can I park on race day?

A) There is lots of parking at the community hall and on the nearby side streets.  Volunteers will direct you to a parking spot.  You cannot park on the race course roads.

Q) When will the roads re-open?

A) The roads will re-open immediately after the last adult racer has completed that section of the event.  The bike roads will open first followed by the roads used for the running portion of the event.

Q) What if I have to leave before the roads re-open?

A) If you need to leave the event before the roads are scheduled to re-open (approx 12:00 for the bike roads, approx 12:30 for the run course roads) then you will need to park outside of the affected area.  You will be able to walk to your vehicle but will need someone else to collect your belongings in the transition area if it has not re-opened before you need to leave.
